During the incident, a 17-year-old boy emerged as a hero as he proved indispensable to the IAF with his help to save lives.
Mudasir Ashraf was amongst the many villagers that ran towards the site where the helicopter had crashed and a local was also ablaze. Ashraf took the lead and went close to the crash site where Kifayat was still ablaze and tried to save him, but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries.
Ashraf received the National Bravery Award for his courage and bravery and is the oldest out of the 22 recipients who received the awards at the Indian Council for Child Welfare.
Besides helping the rescue team, consisting of various forces and the NDRF, to save as many lives as possible, Ashraf further helped them in extracting the mortal remains of the crew members who were on-board.
He also showed bravery in motivating the villagers to help the Armed Forces.
We are proud of Mudasir for showing bravery without sparing a thought about his own life and our nation certainly needs more young men like him.
