Kashmir snowfall: Students who missed JKBOSE exams can re-appear

Due to heavy snowfall in Kashmir, many students have missed their on-going examinations. The Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education (JKBOSE) will provide another chance to these students to re-appear. Deputy Commissioner of Bandipore district, Shahid Choudhary, has tweeted on November 4 informing the board’s agreement. He said, “All students who missed exams due to heavy snowfall will get another opportunity once the weather improves. BOSE has agreed to our request. Same will apply to any further such incidents.”

The board is conducting Annual Regular 2018 winter zone Jammu division exam.

The season’s first snowfall in Srinagar started on Saturday afternoon. An official of the MeT Department said this was the first time since 2009 that Srinagar city witnessed snowfall in November. “So rare is the occurrence that in the last two decades, it was only the fourth time that it has snowed in Srinagar in November with 2008 and 2004 being the earlier instances,” the official was quoted as saying by PTI.

While the Valley faced a power outage, the snowfall also triggered avalanches at some parts of Gurez in Bandipora district.

The Jammu-Srinagar national highway was opened for one-way traffic on Sunday, a day after being closed due to heavy snowfall and landslides, and over 700 stranded commuters were rescued overnight from the Jawahar tunnel area.
