The jubilant twin sisters, Ayeera and Ansa Chisti, famously known as Chisti sisters, are eyeing gold medals in their respective weight categories in the International Wushu championship to be held in Georgia from August 2 to 7, this year.
The duo was recently selected for the International Sporting event by Sports Authority of India(SAI) in the trails under the National Central of Excellence (NCOE) program held at Bhopal, Madiya Pradesh in which players from different states and Union territories across India participated.
After being selected to represent India in the mega event, the sister duo is working hard to make the country in general and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, in particular, proud at the International forum.
“We have won many medals so far but this is far bigger than that. Representing India at the International level is a proud moment for us,” Ayeera told Rising Kashmir.
She added that the sisters are excited to play the Internationals and are working hard to win the gold for the country.
The twins have already won 14 medals in different National Wushu championships while representing J&K.
It wasn’t easy for the sisters to get selected for the International event.
“Ansa and I fought three bouts each and won all and thus got selected for the upcoming International Wushu competition to be held in Georgia. I fought in 52 Kg weight category while Ansa battled in 56 Kg weight category in the selection trails,” Ayeera added.
Hailing from Tawheed Abad, Bemina area in district Srinagar both the 16-years-old twin sisters, are currently studying in Government Girls Higher Secondary Amirakadal, Srinagar.
The duo started to play Wushu journey at the age of 11 in 2017 and since then there has been no looking back for both the sisters.
Ansa Chisti while expressing her feeling said that she made it through selection trails despite a hamstring injury.
“I am hopeful that I will bag medal for the country, and make people of India in general and people of J&K in particular, proud,” she said.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir N.I.S qualified Wushu Coach, Asif Hussain, who trains both sisters, said both the sisters are working hard to perform well at the event.
“Both of them are working hard to ensure that they bag a medal in the international arena,” he said.
Hussain added that both the sisters are outstanding Wushu players and are capable of winning medals on National as well as International platforms.
“I am hopeful that the twins will bring laurels to the country and the UT by winning medals at the International Wushu Championship,” he said.
