JKSWDC disburses Rs 162 cr among 16,000 beneficiaries for setting up IGUs

The Jammu and Kashmir State Women’s Development Corporation (JKSWDC) has disbursed a loan of Rs 162 crore among 16000 women beneficiaries to empower them socio-economically by helping them to set up their own income generation units (IGUs). The information was revealed at a meeting chaired by Secretary Social Welfare Department, Farooq Ahmad Lone while reviewing the functioning of the corporation. The meeting was attended by Managing Director JKSWDC, Nahida Soz and other officials of the corporation. According to an official handout, the corporation has disbursed Rs 9 crore among 482 beneficiaries. Lone appreciated the performance of WDC and hoped that more socio-economically backward women would be aided under income generating activities, the handout read. He directed the officers to conduct awareness camps across the state so that the economically weaker sections of society were benefited with the welfare schemes. Secretary also asked the officials to conduct various vocational training programmes across the state so that aspiring entrepreneurs would be well acquainted with required skills for running their business units successfully, read the handout further. Managing Director, JKSWDC said that JKSWDC has conducted 2068 awareness camps and sensitized 7,13,800 women beneficiaries besides organising 20 mega camps. She said that as a vocational training provider nominated by GOI through State Technical Education Department has imparted training to 6323 women beneficiaries. The beneficiaries were linked to Micro Finance Scheme of WDC and Rs 5.92 crores were released for them, it further read. “WDC made best efforts to revive the languish arts of J&K like Gujjar Topi, Miniature Paintings, Block Printing and Calligraphy,” read the handout. WDC has available government guarantee of Rs 30 crore under NMDFC scheme, it added.
