A total of 248 works under different schemes are currently being undertaken in Jammu and Kashmir to improve the health infrastructure of the region.
These include 220 works under consideration under the UT CAPEX, 17 under NABARD, and 11 under the PMDP/CSS schemes.
Minister for Health & Medical Education Department, Sakina Itoo, shared this information in the Legislative Assembly today in reply to a starred question of Congress legislator from Wagoora-Kreeri Assembly segment, Irfan Hafiz Lone.
Besides this, the Minister said, under the Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (ABHIM) of NHM, Critical Care Blocks (CCBs) are being constructed in every district, further strengthening the secondary and tertiary care services.
For human resource and capacity building development, she said, the Department has been timely conducting various training programmes viz. BMEOC, IMNCIA, SBA, NMHP, BLS, ALS, ERTC, RMNCH, HAME (yatra), BEC, DRP training in order to enhance the skills among the staff for better delivery of healthcare.
“So far, 11,094 doctors and paramedical staff/others have been trained during the last three years. Besides, 160 trainings/programmes/ workshops under CSS have also been conducted,” Itoo said.
Replying to another question of the Congress legislator regarding the existing doctor-patient ratio and the steps taken to improve the same in J&K, the Minister replied that currently, one doctor is available in the UT for 1,880 individuals (1:1880).
In order to improve the doctor-patient ratio, Itoo said, the Health and Medical Education Department has been continuously referring the posts of Medical Officer(s), Assistant Professor(s) etc to the recruiting agency viz. JKPSC.
“The H&ME Department has recently appointed 365 Medical Officers, 105 Assistant Professors. Besides, in order to supplement the availability, the services of the doctors/specialists are availed under the National Health Mission on contractual basis.
“As of now, 96 Specialists, 418 Medical Officers (Allopathic) and 874 Medical Officers (Ayush) under the National Health Mission are discharging their services in the entire UT of Jammu and Kashmir,” the Health and Medical Education Minister said.
On National Ayush Mission (NAM) related development in the UT, Sakina Itoo claimed that while three new Ayush Government Medical Colleges have been established in the UT, 523 standalone Ayush dispensaries have also been upgraded as Ayushman Arogya Mandir-Ayush (Ayush Health & Wellness Centres).
Apart from this, 36 new Ayush dispensaries have been established under NAM in the UT, she added.
