Jammu and Kashmir Pencak Silat teams Monday emerged overall Champions by bagging a total of 23 medals including six gold, three silver, and fourteen bronze medals in the Senior Nationals Pencak Silat Championship 2021-22 held at GHG College Ludhiana Punjab.
The championship started from March 11 and concluded on March 14, 2022 in which a total of 700 Pencak silat players including men, women, Para Army, and state police teams from 34 states and Union Territories participated and showcased their talent.
In the championship, J&K topped the overall medal tally while bagging a total of 23 medals including six gold, three silver, and fourteen bronze medals followed by Maharashtra as runners up while securing second place with 14 medals including five gold, three silver, and six bronze medals while as Haryana succeeded in securing the third spot by bagging eight medals including four gold, two silver, and two bronze medals.
Players who performed well in this championship were taken to the radar for the Indian national camps for the forthcoming Asian, World, and other international championships in the coming months.
Dr. Swaranjeet Singh Deol was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony; he also distributed medals among players for exhibiting their excellent performance in the national arena.
Kishor Prakash Yewale, President, Indian Pencak Silat Federation, Mufti Hamid Yasin Secretary-General Mohammad Iqbal, Coach Team India, Irfan Aziz Botta, Treasurer, Indian Pencak Silat Federation, Dr. Sanjeev Chopra MD, President Chandigarh Association, and other officers and office bearers were also present on the occasion.
The Championship was organized by Pencak Silat Association Chandigarh under the aegis of Indian Pencak Silat Federation and under the banner of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and Sports Authority of India
