J&K Taekwondo team shines with two bronze medals at 40th Junior National Championships 2023

The junior Taekwondo team from Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) showcased their immense talent at the 40th Junior National Taekwondo Championships 2023, securing two bronze medals in an impressive display of skill and determination.
Led by Chief Coach Atul Pangotra, the J&K Junior Taekwondo team was flagged off by the J&K Sports Council to represent the union territory at the prestigious championship held from July 7th to 9th, 2023. Organized by the Karnataka Taekwondo Association under the aegis of the Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI), the event drew fierce competition from talented athletes across the country.
Suryansh Victor Sharma and Khalida Jabeen emerged as the shining stars of the J&K team, clinching bronze medals in their respective weight categories. Sharma displayed exceptional skills in the under 73kg division, while Jabeen showcased her prowess in the under 46kg category.
Although the journey ended in the quarterfinals for Soham Sharma, Madhvi Chib, and Vishwas Sudan, their performances were laudable and highlighted the overall strength and potential of the J&K team.
Prior to the championship, the J&K Sports Council organized a week-long training camp at the MA Stadium in Jammu, under the guidance of Coach Atul Pangotra. The camp aimed to fine-tune the skills and prepare the athletes for the rigorous challenges they would face at the national level. Coach Pangotra was accompanied by Rajinder Singh, Burhan Khan, Mukesh Okheda, and Roohi Gupta, who served as coaches and team managers.
Expressing his pride, Rajesh Pangotra, President of the J&K Taekwondo Association, and Ramesh Chander Sharma, General Secretary, extended their heartfelt congratulations to the medalists for their outstanding achievements. They also expressed gratitude to Ms. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, for her unwavering financial and logistical support throughout the training camp and the championship.
The impressive performance by the J&K Taekwondo team in the 40th Junior National Taekwondo Championships 2023 reflects the dedication and hard work put in by the athletes and their coaches. It is a testament to the growing prowess of the J&K region in the field of martial arts and serves as an inspiration for young talents aspiring to excel in the sport.
