J&K Sports Council celebrates National Sports Day with enthusiasm, fervour

Paying floral tributes to Indian Hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary, Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council organised an impressive, colourful and well attended function to celebrate National Sports Day here in K.K Hakhu Astroturf Hockey Stadium.

Mukesh Singh, ADGP Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion, Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Director University of Jammu; Sunaina Mehta, Joint Director Tourism Jammu; Rahul Sahai, Chairman PHD Chamber of Commerce Jammu; Pradeep Dutta, Senior Editor Times Now and Shaheen Wahid, SP South Jammu were the guests of honour.

On the occasion, a hockey match was played between two women teams, while the young kids demonstrated yoga and skipping skills also.

The Chief Guest, while paying rich tributes to Major Dhyan Chand, threw light on the significance of the day. He lauded the efforts of J&K Sports Council in building sports culture in Jammu and Kashmir.

The ADGP Jammu also praised the J&K government for raising infrastructural facilities in every nook and corner of the Union Territory.

Earlier, Ranjeet Kalra, Member of J&K Sports Council, while welcoming the chief guest and other dignitaries on behalf of Secretary Nuzzat Gul, threw light on the achievements of J&K Sports Council under the dynamic leadership of LG Manoj Sinha, who is also president of J&K Sports Council.

The J&K Sports Council on this occasion also presented an Expression of Gratitude Memento to AGDP Mukesh Singh for his extraordinary contribution towards promotion of sports and support to the initiatives of the Sports Council.

Kalra also extended thanks to J&K Police and various government agencies for their support to the sports initiatives of J&K government.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Rajeev Sharma, Member of Sports Council, Mohd. Haneef, CSO, Ashok Singh Divisional Sports Officer. Coaches, Naveen Sharma, Krupali Singh, Manisha Gupta, Rachna Jamwal, Sat Pal Singh, Anil Gupta and Ajay Gupta and prominent sports persons of J&K

The proceedings of the event were conducted by anchor, Rajesh Dhar.
