J&K Sericulture Development Department Participates in International Conference on Emerging Technologies in Silk Sector at Bharat Tex-2025

A high-level delegation from the Sericulture Development Department Jammu and Kashmir, led by Mr. Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director Sericulture J&K participated in the International Conference on Emerging Technologies in Silk Sector today at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, as part of the Bharat Tex-2025 (Global Textile Expo).

 
The event also featured a theme pavilion, “INDIA’S SILK SAGA,” showcasing India’s rich silk heritage, innovations, and advancements in the sector. The participation of the J&K Sericulture Development Department in this global event underscores the commitment to explore sustainable solutions, foster collaborations, and enhance the growth of the silk industry in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at the event, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director Sericulture J&K, emphasized the significance of such global expos, stating that they provide immense opportunities for business expansion, networking, and brand recognition for manufacturers and stakeholders in the silk sector. He further remarked that such events allow J&K’s silk industry to gain international exposure, attract investments, and boost the economic prospects of local silkworm rearers, farmers and entrepreneurs.
 
The conference also witnessed active participation from national and international delegations, fostering discussions on emerging technologies, sustainable practices, and the future roadmap for the silk industry.
 
In recognition of his dedication and relentless efforts in the development of the sericulture sector in Jammu and Kashmir, Shri P. Sivakumar, IFS, Member Secretary & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Central Silk Board (CSB), Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, Bengaluru, felicitated Mr.Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director Sericulture J&K, with a memento and certificate.
 
Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Ajaz Ahmad Bhat (IAS) highlighted the department’s vision to organize similar expos in Jammu and Kashmir, which would act as a catalyst for the revival and growth of the silk industry in the region. He reiterated the department’s commitment to revitalizing the sericulture sector in J&K through various strategic initiatives, including awareness campaigns for silkworm rearers, farmers, and youth to encourage wider participation in sericulture activities, capacity-building programs across all districts of J&K to train farmers and entrepreneurs in modern sericulture practices, financial assistance for the construction of rearing sheds in a phased manner, distribution of toolkits, equipment and implements to enhance silkworm rearing and sericulture operations, subsidies for the establishment of silk reeling units to strengthen the silk value chain in the region.
 
Pertinently, one of the Automatic Reeling unit holder M/S Bombyx Mori, Khanmoh, Srinagar, Kashmir was also given an opportunity  by the Sericulture department to  participate in the event who showcased his stall of silk products. He informed that his unit produces 20 MT Silk yarn for weaving of quality Silk Cloths and expressed his optimism that by virtue of these events the business get the opportunity to conduct transactions on B2B platform to widen and expand area of network in contemporary global business scenario.
 
The participation of J&K Sericulture Development Department in this prestigious global event reinforces its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the long-term prosperity of the silk sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
