The J&K Girls Gymnastics team made history at the National Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships held in Surat, winning an unprecedented 17 medals. This marks the first time in the history of J&K Gymnastics that the UT has secured such an impressive tally, showcasing the immense talent and determination of local gymnasts.
The standout performances came from Muskan, who claimed 4 Gold medals in Ball, Clubs, and Ribbon and 2 Silver medals in the Hoop event, bringing her total medal count to six. Manya also added to the team’s success with 1 Silver and 3 Bronze medals, further contributing to J&K’s impressive haul. In the junior category, Vaibhavi Sharma emerged as another key performer, securing 2 Gold medals in Ball and Ribbon, along with 2 Silver medals in Hoop and Clubs, bringing her total to 2 Gold and 4 Silver. Advita Chowdhary earned a Silver medal in the Ball event in the Sub-Junior category, while the Sub-Junior team, which included Triza Balal, Advita Chowdhary, Pallavi Sharma, and Hargun, clinched the Bronze medal in the team championship.
The success of the gymnasts was praised by Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, J&K, who congratulated the athletes for their exceptional performances and expressed confidence that they would continue to excel, bringing pride to both J&K and the nation. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the Sports Council, J&K, also congratulated the gymnasts, highlighting their dedication and the growing sports ecosystem in the region.
Er. Kiran Wattal, Vice President of the Gymnastics Federation of India, credited the success to the hard work of J&K’s highly qualified coaches, Arjuna Awardee Krupali Singh and Manisha Gupta, for their dedication to nurturing young talent. He also acknowledged the contributions of the J&K administration, under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, for its commitment to developing world-class sports infrastructure and providing opportunities for young athletes.
