J&K among ‘fast movers’ in Logistics Performance Index 2024

Jammu and Kashmir has been categorized as one of the “fast movers” in the Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) 2024 rankings, as per the latest report released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The report highlights the performance of Indian States and Union Territories (UTs) in key logistics parameters, essential for improving exports and economic growth.
Other States in the “fast movers” category include Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry.

Meanwhile, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Delhi have been ranked among the 13 States and Union Territories that have been categorised as “achievers” in the logistics index chart 2024.
The index is an indicator of the efficiency of logistical services necessary for promoting exports and economic growth.
In 2023 also, 13 States and UTs were in the achievers category.
The other States and UTs in the “achievers” category are Chandigarh, Haryana, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh

The LEADS 2024 report, which assesses states based on four crucial pillars-Logistics Infrastructure, Logistics Services, Operating and Regulatory Environment, and Sustainable Logistics-has placed Jammu and Kashmir among the “fast movers.” This category includes regions that are showing promising advancements in their logistics performance.
The report specifically evaluates States on infrastructure, services, regulatory frameworks, and sustainability in logistics.

The LEADS index was introduced in 2018 as an alternative to the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI), incorporating both perception-based surveys and objective data to provide a more comprehensive view of logistical services in each state.
The report offers valuable insights for State Governments, enabling them to make informed decisions to further improve logistics performance, essential for promoting trade and economic prosperity.
