Jammu and Kashmir Mahjoor Foundation,today released quarterly literary magazine “GASH”

It was sort of revival for Kashmiri language and literature as “GAASH” arguably the first ever journal of Kashmiri literature to be published in the past eight decades, was released in a graceful ceremony at the auditorium of Information Department in Srinagar.

‘Shairi Kashmir’ Mehjoor started publication of the first Kashmiri language newspaper way back in 1940. “However, the endeavour was cut short due to spiralling cost of newsprint in the wake of World War 2. J and K Mahjoor Foundation had been contemplating the revival for quite some time and planned a new avatar for the publication in accordance with the present day demands of Kashmiri language and literature, which is how “GAASH” the News paper got converted into “GAASH” the quarterly  literary journal.

It said in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and languages, Directorate of Information, Directorate of Education Kashmir, and Kashmir Book Promotion Trust, J and K Mehjoor Foundation, organised the event to mark the release of the quarterly language literary journal “GAASH”.

Eminent researcher and litterateur Muhammad YousufTeing presided over the event while noted jurist Justice (Retd) Bashir Ahmad Kirmani graced the event as chief guest. Prominent personalities GhulamNabiKhayal, RafeeqRaaz, Prof ShafiShouq, Nayeema Ahmad Mehjoor, Dr. Abdul Ahad, Mushtaq Ahmad Mushtaq, Prof, Majrooh Rasheed were also present on the occasion. In course of the event several natiya renditions were made to honour the essence of the holy month of Ramadhan.

President J and K Mehjoor foundation PeerzadaAbdalMehjoor welcomed the guests. On the occassion speakers hailed the revival of “GAASH” as a worthy step and hoped that it would become a trend setter across the broad spectrum of Kashmiri language and literature.
