For years travellers have been visiting the erstwhile state to soak in the natural beauty of what some argue is better than Switzerland. However, the now Union Territory was earlier marred by terror attacks and many tourists stayed away from the region. However, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on September 7 claimed that Jammu and Kashmir is entering a new phase of peace and progress.
“J&K is witnessing a new era of peace and development under the Modi government. The region has transformed from a terrorist hotspot into a tourist hotspot, with an increase in educational and economic activities,” Shah posted on X.He is set to kick off the BJP’s election campaign and release the party’s manifesto as part of his visit to Jammu and Kashmir that commenced on Friday.
CNBC-TV18 had earlier reported that Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism department reported an extraordinary increase in visitor numbers, surpassing previous years. In 2023, the region welcomed over 21.1 million tourists, significantly boosting the local economy.The launch of Mercedes-Benz’s electric vehicle in Gulmarg was a notable highlight, with the tourism department indicating that additional high-profile events are planned.
Furthermore, the region’s stunning landscapes captured the attention of the film industry, with over 50 movies filmed in its scenic locations over the past year. This cinematic interest, combined with the government’s dedicated efforts to enhance stability, has been key in revitalizing the tourism sector.
