Ist MBBS batch graduates from GMC Baramulla

Started in 2019 amid various challenges, the first MBBS batch of Government Medical College (GMC), Baramulla, comprising 100 students, graduated today.

In this regard, a grand farewell party was organized at the GMC, which was attended by not only the graduating students but also various other notable people, including the Secretary of Health & Medical Education (H&ME), Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed.

As the final-year students bid farewell to their alma mater, they reminisced about their time at the GMC, while the event provided an opportunity for students to express gratitude to their professors and mentors.

In his address, the Secretary encouraged the graduates to continue their pursuit of excellence, stressing the importance of compassionate patient care, lifelong learning, and ethical practice.
“The journey doesn’t end with the degree-it’s just the beginning. The newly minted doctors are now poised to contribute significantly to the healthcare system,” he said.

He commended the students for their hard work and dedication, emphasizing the crucial role they will play in the healthcare sector, and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence and to serve the community with compassion and professionalism.
Dr. Abid further highlighted the importance of continuous learning and the adaptation of the latest technology in the Medical field, urging the students to stay updated with the latest advancements and best practices.

Others who attended the farewell included the Principal of GMC, Baramulla, Dr. Ruby Reshi; Principal of GMC, Anantnag, Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb; Principal of GMC, Srinagar, Dr. Iffat Hassan; Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla, Minga Sherpa; Principal of GMC Handwara, Dr. Khursheed Wani; and Medical Superintendent of GMC Baramulla, Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, along with HoDs and other faculty members.

Pertinent to mention here, last month, GMC Anantnag-which is the first among the newly established Medical Colleges in J&K-also produced its maiden MBBS batch, comprising 100 students. All the students who have graduated from both the GMCs will now undertake the mandatory internship in various hospitals.
