Kargil, Aug 27: The 4th Ladakh Taekwondo Training Programme, organized by the Shargole Taekwondo Association under the aegis of the Ladakh Taekwondo Association and in collaboration with the Kargil Taekwondo Association, concluded at the Indoor Stadium Shargole. The seven-day intensive training camp saw participation from over 84 students from various schools across the region.
The camp provided a unique opportunity for young athletes to receive training from the State Awardee and International Taekwondo Player, Tashi Tundup. His expertise and dedication inspired the participants, equipping them with advanced skills in Taekwondo.

Tahir Hussain Zubdavi, Joint Director of Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, was the Chief Guest on the clossing ceremony.

Zubdavi lauded the efforts of Tashi Tundup for giving back to the community and for helping to cultivate the next generation of Taekwondo talent in Ladakh. He emphasized the government’s focus on developing sports infrastructure and nurturing individual athletes in the region. He assured the players of the government’s full support in their athletic pursuits and called for active community participation to further elevate sports in Ladakh.

“Taekwondo has brought immense pride to Ladakh at both national and international levels. Despite our small population, we have produced many accomplished athletes, including international players and state awardees. The achievements in this Olympic sport are a testament to the potential within our community,” said Zubdavi. He also mentioned plans to meet with various sports associations to formulate strategies for enhancing the sports sector, benefiting players across the region.

Anayat Ali Shotopa, General Secretary of the Ladakh Taekwondo Association, highlighted the association’s significant milestones since its inception in 1999. “The Ladakh Taekwondo Association is proud to be the first sports organization in the region with over 100 Black Belts, including 40 women, dozens of international and national players, two Sher-e-Kashmir Awardees, two State Awardees from UT Ladakh, one International Referee, and 15 Professional National Referees. This is a remarkable achievement for an association dedicated to the development of sports in Ladakh,” he stated.

Tahir Zubdavi distributed certificates and mementos to the participants and officials in recognition of their hard work and dedication.
The Ladakh Taekwondo Association also took the opportunity to honor Tundup’s mother for her invaluable support in nurturing such a distinguished athlete.
Mohd Ali Chandan, President of the BJP Kargil and President of the Shargole Taekwondo Association, presented a traditional Khatak to Tahir Hussain Zubdavi on behalf of all sports associations in Ladakh, congratulating him on his new role as Joint Director of Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh.
