Srinagar is set to receive an additional 100 PM e-Buses within the next three months under the Smart City project, officials from Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) said on Wednesday.
An official stated that the national tendering process for the new fleet has been initiated. “Within three months, there will be another 100 buses, and after that, the total number of e-buses in Srinagar will reach 200,” the official said.
These buses will operate within the city to improve public transportation. At present, around 100 e-buses are running on 16 different routes, providing a reliable travel option for passengers. With the addition of another 100 buses, the city aims to offer a smoother and more efficient commuting experience.
The official highlighted that since the introduction of e-buses, passengers have experienced significant relief. “In the first year of their operation, these buses generated a revenue of ₹11 crore, and around 61 lakh people have availed the service,” the official added.
SSCL officials are optimistic that the new buses will be operational soon and will further benefit the people of Srinagar.
Javed Ahmed, a shopkeeper at Lal Chowk, shared his positive experience, stating that the e-buses have brought major relief, especially for business owners. “Earlier, due to a lack of transport, we had to shut our shops early or purchase our own vehicles. Now, we know exactly when the buses will arrive, allowing us to continue our business until late at night,” he said.
Other passengers echoed similar sentiments, appreciating the improved facilities on e-buses, such as online monitoring, air conditioning, and onboard security cameras. They believe these features enhance safety and provide a comfortable travel experience.
Bisma Bilal, a student at Kashmir University, expressed her satisfaction, stating that female passengers feel safer due to security cameras and reserved seats for women. “Earlier, traditional transport had no security measures. Now, these buses offer a safer environment for female commuters,” she said.
Passengers believe that expanding the e-bus fleet will be a game-changer for Srinagar’s transport system. With hopes high, they eagerly await the arrival of the new buses, expecting an even better travel experience in the coming months.
