Gurez Valley located near the Line of Control in north Kashmir is rapidly becoming a popular tourist destination.
The local population credits the LG Manoj Sinha led administration for making it possible, and the surge in tourism is providing employment opportunities for local youth.
This summer, a large number of tourists have come to Gurez from all over India. They come to see the beautiful mountains and clear waters of the Kishanganga River. The peaceful scenery and easier access have made Gurez Valley a favorite spot for people who love nature and seek peace.
An important part of this increase in tourism is how local young people without jobs are starting tent services for the growing number of visitors. They’ve cleverly set up tents that are always full, showing how successful and practical this idea is.
One local youth, Irshad Ahmad, who has been instrumental in providing tent services, expressed his gratitude towards the local administration and the Lieutenant Governor’s government.
“Allowing tourists to this place is great. Even educated youth like MA BEd are involved in this process and are earning well. We are getting good support from the government,” Irshad told news gathering agency KNS, highlighting the positive impact on local employment.
Another youth shared similar sentiments, thanking the government for opening up border tourism and supporting their efforts to generate employment.
“We are thankful to the government for their support in generating employment opportunities through border tourism,” he remarked, emphasizing the significant role of government support in this transformation.
There are approximately 300 tents available across various spots in Gurez Valley, providing a source of income for local youth.
“Almost every tourist or resident of Jammu and Kashmir who visits here loves to stay in the tents and enjoy the beauty of Gurez Valley,” said one local youth.
The return of tourism to Gurez Valley shows how well the government and locals are working together. This valley used to be closed off because it’s near the Line of Control (LOC), but now it’s one of the calmest and safest places in Kashmir.
Imran Ahmad, a visitor from Srinagar who recently explored Gurez Valley, described his experience to KNS, saying, “Visiting Gurez feels like stepping into a magical world surrounded by tall mountains. Just five hours north of Srinagar, the scenery changes dramatically, especially how the trees line the roads.”
He continued, “To reach Gurez, you cross the Razdan Pass, where the landscape changes dramatically. Gurez has unique and impressive scenery. Nearby, Tulail Valley, surrounded by tall mountains and thick forests, offers nature lovers pristine landscapes with lush meadows, sparkling streams, and enchanting woodlands, creating a peaceful atmosphere. Along the road, you pass picturesque villages such as Chakwali, Sheikhpora, Badugam, Purana Tilail, and Angaikot.
These villages boast stunning views of high mountains and rolling grasslands. Some ancient communities still have traditional wooden homes built without nails. Razdan Pass, at 3,300 meters above sea level, offers panoramic views of Gurez and Bandipora. The majestic Habba Khatoon Peak, standing 4,380 meters high, provides sweeping views of Gurez Valley.”
He added that the unspoiled beauty of the Kishanganga River flowing through the valley enhances the unique experience.
