Govt of J&K Inaugurates Common Raw Water Main for Three Major Water Supply Schemes in Kulgam

In a significant move to bolster the drinking water infrastructure in south Kashmir, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir today inaugurated the Common Raw Water Main (CRWM), aimed at enhancing water supply across three vital areas in Kulgam district.

The inauguration was led by Sakina Masood (Itoo), Minister for Health & Medical Education, School Education, Higher Education, and Social Welfare. She was joined by District Development Commissioner Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan (IAS) and Chief Engineer Jal Shakti (PHE) Kashmir, Er. Taj Mohammad Chowdhary.

The newly inaugurated CRWM will serve three major water supply schemes in the district—Drabgbal Waripora, H.M. Guri, and C.S. Rather—collectively covering a significant population and aiming to address long-standing issues of water scarcity and supply reliability. The projects have been undertaken at a cumulative cost exceeding

1,000 lakh, with the highest allocation going to Drabgbal Waripora.

Executed by the Jal Shakti (PHE) Special Division Kulgam, these projects are part of the broader mission to provide sustainable, clean, and accessible drinking water under the Jal Jeevan Mission initiative.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Sakina Itoo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering basic amenities, stating that enhanced water infrastructure not only ensures public health and hygiene but also contributes to social development and women’s empowerment by reducing the burden of fetching water from distant sources.

The event marked a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts of the J&K administration to strengthen rural water supply systems and ensure equitable access to safe drinking water for all citizens.(KNS)
