Govt likely to start teleclasses as schools remain shut due to COVID-19

Amid the continuous closure of schools, the Jammu and Kashmir government is gearing up to start regular teleclasses to compensate the academic loss of students due to COVID-19 triggered lockdown.
The teleclasses shall be held for 9th to12th standard to begin with and all major subjects will be covered.
Besides the regular teleclasses, the government also said that it will broadcast educational content for other classes in a week’s time.
“The Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department is framing a proposal to commence the teleclasses for 9-12 standard to ensure that students do not suffer academic losses during the closure of schools due to COVID-19 pandemic,” Administrative Secretary, School Education Department, B K Singh said.
Singh said the department is drafting the proposal and will soon submit it to the government for approval.
“As of now, the department has not decided the duration of each class but all classes will be approximately between 3-6 hours per day,” he added.
The Administrative Secretary said besides the regular teleclasses for 9-12th standard, the government will also follow a similar pattern for other classes in a week’s time.
“The School Education Department has already scheduled the time and date with the telecasters and will begin with the teleclasses from this week,” he said.
On asking whether the teleclasses will be same like the previous year, Singh said that they will cover syllabi of all major subjects.Earlier this month, the School Education Department said it has started Learning Management System (LMS) through a digital platform to connect students with teachers for online classes and also reach out to the underprivileged students through community classes.
The department said that the decision was taken in view of the closure of the educational institutes due to the surge in COVID-19 cases across the Valley.
