Government of India (GoI) has assisted 4782 Kashmiri children hit by violence during the past three years.
As per the official figures, Rs 3.64 crore has been disbursed among children affected by violence so to achieve better career success in their lives.
A meeting in this regard was chaired by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Khan.
Secretary National Foundation for Communal Harmony (NFCH) which works under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, Deputy Commissioners and District Welfare Officers were also present in the meeting.
Under the policy, NFCH provides Rs 1250 per month to the children affected by violence up to the 12th standard, Rs 1500 to graduate and postgraduates and Rs 1750 per month for professional courses.
The data reveals that in 2017-18, Rs 1.89 crore were distributed among 1211 children in 10 districts of Kashmir.
In 2018-19, Rs 1.61 crore were released to 938 children in eight districts of Kashmir, while in 2019-20 Rs 13 lakh was sanctioned to 77 children in three districts.
Kupwara with 1678 children registered the most affected children related to violence in 2017-18 and 2018-19.
In 2017-18, around 334 children were affected and in 2018-19, the toll of the affected children was 274 in the border district.
Rs 50 lakh and Rs 48 lakh were sanctioned to assist the children affected in the region in 2017-18 and 2018-19.
However, in 2019-20, Kupwara registered zero children affected by violence.
Among the other districts that registered high number of affected children related to militancy in 2017-18 and 2018-19 were Anantnag with 225 and 76 children.
In 2019-20, no case of affected children was registered.
In Baramulla, 700 children were affected that include 246 children in 2017-18, 196 children in 2018-19, and 15 children in 2019-20.
In Srinagar, 253 children were affected that include 69 in 2017-18, 42 in 2018-19 and 25 in 2019-20.
Ganderbal registered the least number of children affected by violence in the past three years.
In 2017-18, Ganderbal registered 14 affected children, in 2018-19, the figures were 13 while in 2019-20, the affected children registered were zero.
Meanwhile, in order to evaluate the impact of the scheme on the ground, NHFC are going to have third party evaluation of the project assisted through Rehabilitation Council Kashmir and University of Kashmir.
