Bringing laurels to the varsity, two short films produced by the Department of Media Studies, Government Degree College Baramulla, titled ‘Schizophrenia’ and ‘Khattay Angoor’ were awarded the best film and second best film respectively at the recently concluded Sarhad’s 1st J&K International Film Festival, Pune.
The five day film festival, organized by JAKIFF at Pune, Maharashtra saw more than 70 entries from different states.
‘Schizophrenia’ is directed by Nayeem Mir, student of Media Studies 4th Semester and is aimed to portray the effects of ‘Schizophrenia’ experienced by the victims of this disorder.
While as ‘Khattay Angoor’ , awarded as the second best film, has been directed by Ubaid Zarger, an Alumni of Media Studies, GDC Baramulla.
After receiving the award, Nayeem said that he is looking forward to establish his own production house after completion of degree from the department of Media Studies.
“It was impossible to bag this prestigious award without the guidance of my teachers and technical staff at the department of Media studies”, said Nayeem Mir.
Commenting on the prestigious award Ubaid Zarger praised the department for providing a platform to media students for making short films.
GDC Baramulla is one of the educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir where media studies are taught as a separate course and has produced hundreds of filmmakers, journalists, ad gurus, public relations experts and researchers.
