Food & Drugs Administration organises Awareness/ Training programme at Baramulla

As part of ‘Eat Right India’ challenge, the Food and Drug Administration  organised a daylong seminar at Dak Bunglow here.

‘Eat Right India’ challenge is a large-scale initiative of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India to improve public health and combat negative nutritional trends to fight lifestyle diseases and make awareness among consumers about safe, healthy and sustainable dietary habits.

Commissioner, Food and Drugs Administration, Shakeel -ur-Rehman was the Chief guest on the occasion.

At the outset, a detailed awareness was given to the consumers with regard to Food Safety and various hygienic parameters.

A detailed information was also given to Food Business Operators (FBOs) through Power point presentation wherein they were trained the ways and measures to get themselves registered with Food Safety license and registration. They were also trained to keep every hygienic parameter into consideration with regard to any stage of manufacture, processing, packaging, storage, distribution of food and imports besides food services.

These manufactures were also directed to conduct Hygiene Rating of their premises and to undergo advanced Food Safety training and certification through empanelled partners of Food Safety & Standards Authority of India.

Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner Food and Drugs Administration said that the ‘Eat Right India’ movement is envisioned as a competition among districts and cities to recognize their efforts in adopting and scaling up various initiatives under Eat Right India. Further, it is meant to motivate states to improve performance and encourage others to join.

He said the FSSAI has selected just 150 districts across the country for this movement and Baramulla district figures one among them.

While complementing the efforts of Food and Drug Administration at the grass roots level, the commissioner said that Jammu and Kashmir has been ranked as number one in the recent Food and Safety Index 2021-22.

He further said that the department is collecting samples of various eatable items, which are sent to the laboratory for testing to know whether they qualify the set standards for consumption of human beings.

Moreover, he informed that besides awareness, during the ongoing Eat Right campaign various measures are being taken to ensure complete compliance of rules as set by FSSAI.

On the occasion, various registration certificates were also issued to Food Businesses Operators (FBOs) who desired to work in this sector.

Assistant Commissioner, Food and Drugs Baramulla, Suranjeet Singh, various officers and officials besides a huge gathering of Food Business Operators of Baramulla district were present on the occasion.
