`Export Award’: J&K to incentivize artisans, dealers to boost handicraft, fruit exports

Jammu and Kashmir government is mulling to launch `J&K Export Award’ to boost exports.

The initiative aims to foster a spirit of competitiveness among exporters while appreciating their performance in various sectors. The government hopes that this recognition will further motivate businesses, drive innovation, and improve J&K’s standing in the global export market.

Jammu and Kashmir exports goods particularly handicraft items, apart from apparel,  clothes,  cereals, organic chemicals, fruits and nuts, cotton, and hand-made staple fiber to various countries of the world.

The awards as per the document will be presented in multiple categories, including The Best Exporter of the Year, The Best Employer by an Exporting Unit, The Best Women Exporter of the Year, and The Best Start-up Exporter of the Year.

An official said that the awards are envisioned to inspire more people to enter the export business, particularly in high-demand international sectors.

“It is in the pipeline and the sad move has been also mentioned in the export policy. The government is willing to increase the production of goods, which have good demand in the international market. Focus is on the handicrafts sector which defines the export profile of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

Apart from felicitating the achievers, the Jammu and Kashmir government will also focus on promoting the brand Jammu and Kashmir. “To bring attention to exportable products from Jammu and Kashmir and promote Brand Jammu and Kashmir, global events like trade fairs, exhibitions, business conclaves, business delegation meets, etc. will be organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Trade Promotion Organization within and outside the country,” the document said.

The government is equally planning to utilize the e-commerce option “to directly assist artisans, enabling smoother access to digital platforms for marketing and exporting their products.”

“The government is exploring the creation of a specialized e-commerce platform to connect artisans and weavers from the region, offering an online repository to showcase individual products and facilitate their onboarding with major e-commerce platforms,” the official document said.
