Dr Iliyas Rizvi turns old city house into art space in Covid times.

As the Covid pandemic continues to remain a roadblock in holding public events, Dr Iliyas Rizvi has come up with a novel idea of turning his old city residence into an art space. With artists finding it difficult to give vent to their creative side, Rizvi’s residence at Alamgari Bazar is providing a platform to young photographers, calligraphers and artists these days.

Every year we hold an exhibition at Kashmir University but this time, it was not possible due to the pandemic. The lockdown had already confined us indoors and there was no platform to express ourselves. Therefore, I came up with an idea of turning my house into an art space where we are holding workshops-cum-exhibitions. We have placed frames on trees and plants in the lawns and also inside our hall,” Rizvi said.

Artists have started coming here and we have plans of holding more interactive art-based sessions,” said Rizvi.Visitors to the exhibition said the artists needed a platform in the times of Covid.

“It is an innovative concept. Over the past few years, we have seen more youngsters showing keen interest in art but they do not find the right platform to express themselves. Moreover, this exhibition is being held at this heritage-type house and sitting and enjoying art works in the lawns of this old city locality is a stress reliever in the times of Covid.
