The District Wushu Championship for Bandipora was officially inaugurated today at Salvatore International School, Shilvat Bandipora. Organized by the Wushu Association of J&K and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council, the two-day event has attracted approximately 270 boys and girls from various institutions and clubs across the district.
Wushu, a sport prioritized by the Government of India, has gained considerable popularity in recent years. The top performers in this championship will advance to the J&K UT level competition.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, as the chief guest. He was joined by other honoured guests, including SDPO and SDM Sumbal and Padma Shri awardee Faisal Ali Dar, who emphasized the significance of Wushu in promoting physical and mental well-being among youth. They highlighted the sport’s potential to foster both personal and professional growth.
Hosting the event outside the district headquarters was a deliberate effort to expand engagement and offer equal opportunities to youth from various parts of Bandipora. The championship aims to address social issues by providing constructive activities and creating pathways for future generations.
