Department of Sericulture on Tuesday started the 5-day farmer’s skill training programme at Sericulture Farm Aytmulla in Bandipora. Deputy Director Sericulture, Peerzada Khursheed Ahmad inaugurated the training programme while District Information Officer Bandipora Jahangeer Akhoon was also present on the occasion.
While speaking on the occasion said that the training programme aims at imparting knowledge about the latest technology on Sericulture and providing technical know-how to the participants for better cocoon production and creating awareness about the current programmes/schemes provided by the department.
Addressing the participants he said that silkworm rearing activities were directly related to socio-economic uplift of cross-sections of people especially the weaker and downtrodden. He said concerted efforts were being made to give impetus to the sericulture activities in the district with the aim of enhancing the livelihood opportunities and guaranteed high returns to the people associated with the sericulture sector.
He said that the Sericulture Department is giving much focus to addressing the field problems of the farmers and there is a need to fully train the farmers with the latest techniques for increasing cocoon production.
He impressed upon the participants to avail the benefit of the programme and interact with the experts to avail maximum benefit from the training programme.
On the occasion resource person, Dr Irfan Illahi from Central Silk Board Mansbal said that during the 5-days programme farmers will be acquainted with latest practices in the field and during the training programmes several experts will interact with the farmers and will also respond to the queries of the farmers.
He said the participating farmers shall also be taken out for a field visit to Central Silk Board Mansbal so that they get to know about the modern practices being used to increase the silk production.
