Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad on Monday inaugurated a martial art workshop for the Physical Education teachers of the district at SK Stadium Bandipora. He also handed over the Sports Kits under district Capex to Zonal Officers for onward distribution to various schools of the District.
The workshop was organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Bandipora in collaboration with Ali’s Sports Academy. The workshop was aimed at training the Physical Education Teachers, Masters and Rehber-e-Khel teachers in sports activities as part of capacity building measures to upgrade sports activities in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Bandipora said the Physical Education teachers are the backbone of sports activities in the district as they are the ones who develop the interest of kids in sports at schools and help in promoting sports activities in the district.
He said there was a dire need to inform the physical education teachers about the modern techniques and new sports activities that will help in upgrading the sports activities in the district.
Dr Owais said the upgrading of sports infrastructure and promoting sports activities is the prime priority of the district administration and hailed the youngsters for taking keen interest in sports. He said the youth of Bandipora have showcased their talent at international level and have become guiding forces for other youth who spoil their leisure time.
He said sports is the best activity to do in order to keep body and mind fit besides being a means to stay away from anti-social activities including drugs. He said the district administration has been on forefront in developing sports infrastructure in the district. He said several initiatives are in pipeline to further augment the sports infrastructure. He said a DPR has been recently prepared to propose a range of activities in sports under Mission Youth. District Information Officer Jahangeer Akhoon, District Officer District Youth Services and Sports Gh Qadir, International martial artist Faisal Ali was also present on the occasion and held the training sessions.
Later the Deputy Commissioner handed over sports items to the five education zones of the district including Bandipora, Quilmuqam, Sumbal, Hajin and Gurez for further distribution to their respective schools.
The sports kit included 15 footballs, five cricket bats, 10 pairs of Badminton rackets, 20 boxes of shuttle cocks, 25 volleyballs, 35 skipping ropes, 35 tennis knout rings and 7 volleyball nets.
