On the directions of the Deputy Commissioner(DC), Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad a Walkathon of City Colleges was today conducted as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav(AKAM) In connection with the weeklong celebrations of International Youth Day.
The walkathon was organized by Red Ribbon Club of the college in collaboration with the J&K AIDS Control Society.
Principal A S College, Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, flagged off the rally from Amar Singh College, campus in presence of Principal of City Colleges, Nodal Officers, RRC and other faculty of the college.
Apart from the students and faculty of the host College, Faculty and students from city colleges participated in the walkathon.
The rally comprising of hundreds of students holding play cards in their hands about the HIV/AIDS awareness covered a distance of around 4 kms and went through the heart of the city Lal Chowk, culminated at Joggers Park Rajbagh.
The main motto of the walkathon was to bring awareness among the youth in particular and masses in general about the ill effects of deadly disease HIV/AIDS and the problems faced by youth.
Earlier on the inaugural day of International Youth Day on August 08, 2023, the RRC organized inter-college Poster making and Reel Making competitions about the HIV/AIDS. A large number of students representing the city colleges participated in the respective competitions. Nodal officers RRC, Dr. Shabnum Ara and Dr. Hilal Ahmad Bhat supervised and coordinated the whole programme.
It is worth in place to mention here that the series of events has stated from August 08, 2023 and shall culminate with the valedictory function on August 12, 2023. During the weeklong programme a number of events related to the empowerment and redressal of youth problems and grievances shall be held wherein the city colleges shall continue to participate. The college has designated the juries for the competitions separately and the winners and participants shall be awarded on that day.
During the flagging off ceremony, Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, appreciated J&K AIDS Control Society and RRC of the college, for their active role in the organization of the event and was all thankful to the principals, faculty and students of city colleges for making the event a success. He thanked the District Administration, Police, traffic Police and Health Department for their excellent support and cooperation for the walkathon.
