The Chinar Premier League Martial Art Championship is being conducted from 07 to 09 March 2019 at the newly constructed Goswami Martial Arts Node, Sharifabad, with an aim to positively engage the youth and to promote sports especially the Martial Arts culture in the valley.
The competition comprises of two events i.e Kick Boxing and Wushu for both male and female participants. There are three categories for both events namely the Sub Junior Boys & Girls (Under 11 yrs), Junior Boys & Girls (under 14 yrs) and Senior Boys & Girls (Under 17 yrs). The winners of each category will be awarded a gold medal and a cash award of Rs 5,000/ and runners up will be awarded a silver medal and cash award of Rs 3,000/-.
As Martial Arts is considered a niche sporting discipline in Kashmir, such championships will assist in popularizing the sport and provides a platform to the budding talents of valley. The participation of young girls in the event will certainly change the way combat sports is viewed by the society. Kashmir today is seeing a progressive change with the focus shifting towards alternate sports and this competition provides an opportunity to identify and nurture such talent at a tender age. It will also promote moribund athletics culture amongst the youth of the state. Competitions like this will provide a platform for young talent of Kashmir to get recognized and an opportunity to represent the state at national level and the country at an international level.
