Two mixed martial artists Ayeera Chisti and Zaid Shabir from Jammu and Kashmir are set to represent India in the MMA Youth World championship scheduled to be held at Jiu Jitsu arena Sheikh Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi UAE from August 15 to 21 this year.
As per the official, the duo is part of an Indian contingent of 30 members including coaches led by President MMA India, Shariff Mohammad Bapu. Around 500 athletes from 48 countries across the globe are participating in the world championship.
Besides the duo coach and senior member of MMA J&K, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat from Kashmir is also part of the Indian contingent.
The event is being organised by MMA Federation UAE under the banner of International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF), the World’s largest Federation with 126 nations as its members, the only Federation that partnered with UFC and is the only MMA Federation that has its recognition as a signatory in World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Ayeera and Zaid were selected for the said championship after the duo won two gold medals in the 52KG, and 72KG weight categories in the national championship, organized by Madhya Pradesh MMA Association under MMA India held in Madhya Pradesh from May 19 to 22 this year.
16yr Ayeera who hails from Tawheeda Abad Bemina area in Srinagar city and is currently studying at Higher Secondary school Amira Kadal and is being sponsored by Khyber Industries. She brought laurels to the valley by bagging a gold medal in the international Wushu championship recently held in Georgia.
Zaid,15 hails from the Parraypora area in Srinagar and is currently studying at Delhi Public School Srinagar.
