Kashmir was home to the film industry from the sixties to the eighties. Scores of films were shot in the Valley like Aarzoo, Kashmir ki Kali, Jab Jab phool khile, Kabhi Kabhi, Silsila, Satte pe Satta and Roti, the list is endless.
Film shooting almost came to a halt after militancy erupted in the Valley, disrupting the sources of income of many but with things improving now, after Bollywood returns to Kashmir now Tollywood hits Kashmir for movie shooting.
Famous for their pivotal roles played in various Tollywood movies, a power couple Samantha Akkineni and Naga Chaitanya are in Kashmir now and are shooting for their upcoming Drama Venky Mama.
The actors have described the valley as the best place to visit and are mesmerised with the beauty and landscapes of Kashmir.
The team is shooting for a major part of the film now in the scenic beauty of Kashmir. Venky Mama is a Telugu-language drama film, produced by D Suresh Babu under Suresh Productions banner and directed by K S Ravindra. The film stars Venkatesh, Akkineni Naga Chaitanya, Raashi Khanna, Payal Rajput in the lead roles.
It is our good fortune that after a span of 20 years, the film industry has resumed shooting here. The residents should persuade the film units to come and shoot here. This will bring in profits for the government and for the locals.
