Indian Army Honors National-Level Hockey Star Hanan Nazir in Handwara

The Indian Army honoured national-level hockey player Hanan Nazir at his home in Kulangam area of Handwara on Sunday. The felicitation ceremony drew local residents, family members, and neighbours who gathered to celebrate the young athlete’s achievement.

Hanan, a student from a modest family in Kupwara district, recently represented Jammu and Kashmir at the Under-14 National School Hockey Championship held in Madhya Pradesh. With this feat, he became the first boy from Kupwara to compete at the national level in the tournament.

Army officials visited his residence and congratulated him for bringing pride to the region. They praised his hard work and dedication, saying that young talents like Hanan reflect the strength and potential of the district. The Army also encouraged him to continue training and aim higher in his sporting career.

Speaking on the occasion, family members expressed gratitude for the recognition and support extended to their son. Local residents said the honour has boosted morale in the area and will inspire other children to take up sports seriously.

Hanan said he feels proud to represent his district and wants to work harder to achieve bigger goals in hockey. He thanked his parents, coaches, and well-wishers for standing by him.

The ceremony ended on a hopeful note, with many calling Hanan’s journey a sign that dedication and opportunity can open new paths for youth in remote areas.
