E-Office Success: Over 2,500 Users Transform Government Business in J&K

The e-Office application, designed and developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), is proving to be a game-changer in Jammu and Kashmir. With more than 2,500 users now processing a vast volume of government business through digital e-files, the system has markedly improved administrative efficiency across the UT.

In response to a query by BJP MLA RS Pathania, the government disclosed that a total expenditure of Rs 4,96,73,838 has been incurred on software licences, comprehensive training, capacity building, data recovery facilities (for one year) and dedicated manpower for the e-Office system. This substantial investment underscores the commitment to modernising government operations and streamlining workflows.

‘The initiative was launched by the Information and Technology Department through the Jammu and Kashmir e-Governance Agency (JaKeGA), the nodal agency for e-Governance projects in the UT. JaKeGA has been instrumental in providing extensive training, handholding, and onboarding of government officials onto the platform, ensuring a smooth transition from conventional to digital processes,” the government said.

It said that as per administrative council decision number 32/04/2021, dated March 2021, two key components were implemented to further strengthen the system— the handholding and training of officials for the e-Office rollout, and the establishment of a Disaster Recovery Centre outside J&K’s seismic zone. These responsibilities were assigned to Railtel Corporation of India Ltd under the relevant provisions of the GFR, 2017. “Additionally, a team of 20 outsourced personnel has been engaged to offer ongoing support and further training, reinforcing the system’s resilience and effectiveness,” the government said. “The successful implementation of the e-Office application is expected to further enhance the region’s administrative capabilities, promoting greater transparency and more efficient governance.”
