IGP Kashmir inaugurates training program on ‘Investigation of UAPA cases’

The IGP Kashmir V K Birdi today inaugurated a three-day training program on the “Investigation of UAPA Cases,” in collaboration with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), at Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir.
The inaugural session began with welcome address by Deputy SP Headquarters Srinagar, Sleet Shah. Thereafter, SSP NIA Srinagar, Sandeep Choudhary, presented mementoes to IGP Kashmir and DIG CKR Srinagar. The event was attended by senior officials from the Kashmir Zone, including the SSP Srinagar, Joint Director (JD) Prosecution, and Investigating Officers of the Kashmir Zone.

In his address, IGP Kashmir emphasized the significance of the training, briefing the officers on key aspects of the program. He highlighted the importance of effectively utilizing the UAPA to address security challenges while improving investigative skills to increase efficiency.

IGP Kashmir urged the officers to adhere to established procedures and deepen their understanding of the UAPA in order to conduct investigations in a logical and systematic manner. He stressed the need for meticulous case management, with a focus on the admissibility of evidence and the development of clear action plans.

Furthermore, He underscored the importance of maintaining high standards in documentation, including writing comprehensive case diaries, preparing memos, and drafting well-structured charge sheets to secure convictions. He also stressed the IOs to improve their drafting skills for preparing FIRs, memos, and charge sheets to enhance the quality of investigation.

Calling the program a vital opportunity, IGP Kashmir motivated the participants to fully engage and enhance their expertise in handling UAPA cases. The training will last for three consecutive days and aims to equip officers with the tools and knowledge needed to meet the demands of modern law enforcement.
Several investigators will speak during the program, delivering lectures and discussing NIA case studies, the NIA Act, the UAPA, special provisions, scheduled offences, cyber crime investigations, court trials, and search and seizure in terrorism-related cases
