360-degree anti-terror approach a must for J&K: LG Sinha

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting in Srinagar to assess the security situation in the Kashmir Division.

Emphasising the need for a comprehensive 360-degree approach to counterterrorism, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted the importance of enhancing security capabilities and performance across all areas. He also stressed the enforcement of property attachment policies in terror and narco-terrorism cases.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including DGP J&K, Nalin Prabhat; ADGP Hqrs, MK Sinha; ADGP CID, Nitish Kumar; Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor, Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari; IGP Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi; IGP Crime, Dr. Sunil Gupta; IGP Security, Sujit Kumar; IGP Railways, Vivek Gupta; Range DIGs, SSPs, Commandants of AP/IR Battalions, and various other senior officers of J&K Police, both in person and via virtual mode.

The DGP provided a detailed briefing on the current security situation in the valley and the roadmap developed to address challenges such as counter-insurgency, law and order, minority protection, and terrorist recruitment at zonal, range, and district levels.
IGP Kashmir delivered an in-depth presentation on the challenges faced by the Kashmir Zone, highlighting achievements and outlining strategic measures for future security operations.

The Lieutenant Governor reviewed the performance of various wings of J&K Police, expressing satisfaction with the crime-related performance metrics, particularly concerning UAPA and NDPS.
He directed senior police officials and the heads of various police wings to work in close coordination and intensify efforts to eliminate terrorism and dismantle terrorist networks.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jammu and Kashmir is experiencing a period of peace, progress, and prosperity. I have full confidence in your courage, focused efforts, and strengthened institutional frameworks to make Jammu and Kashmir terror-free. Enhanced intelligence generation, coordination, and precision in anti-terror operations are crucial to tackling future security challenges,” said the Lieutenant Governor.

The Lieutenant Governor instructed officials to devise a results-oriented strategy to identify and neutralize foreign terrorists operating in the Kashmir valley. He called for a systematic approach to addressing the terror ecosystem that supports adversarial forces and terrorists.
“You must adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. I have granted J&K Police and Security Forces a free hand to neutralize the terror ecosystem operating in the shadows. Those supporting and financing terrorism will face severe consequences,” he stated.

The Lieutenant Governor also discussed the challenges posed by disinformation and propaganda, directing officials to take stringent action against those involved.
“Strict measures must be taken against elements using cyberspace to disrupt and spread disinformation. We must actively counter fundamentalist and extremist ideologies, taking legal action as necessary,” he emphasized.

Additionally, he urged the police officials to prioritize core policing tasks, including public confidence-building, grievance redressal, and strengthening community relations. The Lieutenant Governor further stressed the importance of fostering a strong relationship of trust between the Police force and the general public.
“Every citizen must feel secure. It is your duty to protect the common people and take decisive action by punishing terrorists and their supporters,” he concluded.
