J&K artists bring glory to India with Bronze at Int’l Snow Sculpture C’ship

Two  Jammu and Kashmir snow artists representing India at the 2025 International Snow Sculpture Championship held in Breckenridge, Colorado, secured the bronze medal in the prestigious competition. The event, held from January 20 to 24, saw 12 teams from around the world competing, including participants from the US, Finland, Canada, Germany, Mexico, and others.

Team India was represented by Zahoor Ahmad, the captain, and snow artist Suhail Mohammad Khan, both from Jammu and Kashmir. Khan, a hearing and speech-impaired artist, played a key role in the team’s success. He communicated through a team member, expressing his pride and joy: “Although I cannot speak, I am incredibly happy with our win. This is my second time representing India, and I feel fulfilled.”

Captain Zahoor Ahmad, from Singpora Pattan, shared the challenges they faced: “This year, we competed in two major championships—one in Minnesota and one in Colorado. The competition in Colorado was fierce, with high-level artistry on display. Despite the freezing temperatures of -25 to -35°C, we worked non-stop for four days and managed to secure third place.” He also emphasized the potential for similar events to be held in India, especially in places like Gulmarg, which could boost tourism and bring recognition to local artists.
The 12 sculptures were evaluated by five judges, with Germany and Mexico taking the top two spots. This achievement marks a proud moment for Indian snow sculpture artistry on the global stage.
