INSPIRE MANAK: 11 innovative models selected for UT level exhibition

Eleven innovative models created by students were selected for the Union Territory (UT) level exhibition from 102 models showcased at the INSPIRE Manak 2023-24 exhibition held at DIET Kulgam on Friday.

The ‘Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research’ (INSPIRE) scheme, a flagship programme of the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, is executed with the National Innovation Foundation (NIF). INSPIRE-MANAK motivates students aged 10-15 years, studying in classes 6 to 10, to develop original innovations rooted in science and societal applications, fostering creativity and innovation among school children.

Tariq Mehmood, District nodal officer (DNO) told Rising Kashmir that of all the projects showcased in the exhibition, 11 projects were selected which will be represented at the UT Level exhibition.

The programme in Kulgam was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Athar Aamir Khan, accompanied by Principal DIET Rifat Sarosh. Besides, Javaid Ahmad Dar, Divisional Nodal officer; Ms. Sahreen state coordinator INSPIRE Manak; Dr Sajad Ahmad Mir, Principal of Government HSS Qaimoh.

“INSPIRE-MANAK encourages one million ideas and innovations from school children across the country. Today, children from various schools displayed their innovative and creative science models. It’s heartwarming to see how they identified small problems and developed innovative solutions. Such creativity is truly commendable,” DC Kulgam said.

He congratulated the principals, teachers, and science faculty involved in mentoring students and organizing the programme. “As Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam said, igniting young minds…this is what will ignite the minds,” he added.

On DIET Kulgam’s selection as a DIET of Excellence, DC Kulgam said, “Kulgam’s DIET being selected as a DIET of Excellence is a significant achievement. The initiative focuses on upgrading infrastructure, faculty training, and capacity building. With substantial funding from the Government of India, we are working towards world-class labs, auditoriums, and other facilities.” “Some additional land was required for this initiative, which has already been identified. Efforts are underway to ensure a meaningful expansion, truly making it the DIET of Excellence we envision.”
