In line with the national vision of a “ViksitBharat” by 2047, the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) hosted a workshop on the ‘Role of Higher Education Institutions in ViksitBharat@2047: A Focus on Viksit IUST’. This workshop provided a platform for strategic planning, where 50 department heads and coordinators of various centres at IUST shared their insights on shaping a progressive and sustainable future for both the institution and the nation.
The objective of the workshop was to bring academia into the fold of national development, emphasizing the significant contributions that institutions like IUST can make. Each participant presented their short- and long-term development plans, focusing on fostering innovation, community engagement, and academic excellence within their respective departments and centres. The workshop highlighted specific initiatives and strategic priorities for making IUST a model institution, aligned with the goals of a ViksitBharat. Among the discussions were plans for enhancing research capabilities, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, increasing community outreach, creation of centres like computational linguistics and literary media, and fostering skill development aligned with emerging national and global needs.
Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Shakil A Romshoo, Vice Chancellor IUST said that the university aims to contribute to the broader ViksitBharat vision by not only advancing academic standards and research outputs but also preparing students to be responsible citizens and finding solutions to problems of the society.
