SKUAST-K organizes training program for tribal farmers

Dryland Agriculture Research Station of Sher-e- Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Kashmir (SKUAST-K), conducted an extensive train-ing program for tribal farmers as part of the All India Coordinated Research Project on Pulses. The programme was sponsored by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Pulse Research, Kanpur.
The event was held in Khiram village of Anantnag wherein more than 30 tribal farmers and scientists of SKUAST-K notably Prof. Sher Ahmad Dar, Dr. Latief Ahmad, and Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, participated.
On this occasion, Prof. Sher Ahmad Dar, briefed about the critical role of modern agricul-tural technologies in transforming the socio-economic landscape of tribal farming commu-nities. He highlighted the significant advancements made by the AICRP Pulses Srinagar Centre at SKUAST-Kashmir and
encouraged farmers to adopt these innovations to improve their livelihoods.
Dr. Latief Ahmad, a Scientist at DARS and Incharge Outreach AICRP on Pulses, elaborated on the various initiatives undertaken by SKUAST-K to support the unique needs of tribal farmers. He introduced new pulse varieties specifically developed for higher altitude re-gions and emphasized the importance of following recommended agricultural practices to achieve better yields and sustainability.
The farmers were provided certain essential resources, including free tarpaulin sheets, ag-ricultural
equipment, field pea seeds, and educational literature. Prof. Mushtaq A Dar thanked the funding
agencies & all other stake-holders and farmers for successful conduct of the pro-gramm
