SKUAST-K’s DARS launches organic certification training for farmers

The Dryland Agriculture Research Station (DARS) at the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) inaugurated a training programme under the Holistic Agricultural Development Program (HADP) titled “Organic Certification of Niche Crops to Enhance their Niche Value.”
The training, part of Project No. 16 “Alternate System of Agriculture for Sustainability,” is scheduled from July 24 to 26, 2024, the SKUAST-K said in a press release issued here.
The programme saw participation from over 20 farmers, along with scientists and staff from DARS, Rangreth. The event was chaired by Prof Zahoor A. Dar, Associate Director Research, who provided an overview of the ongoing research activities at the station.
Dr Zahida Rashid, the Course Director, highlighted the significance of organic certification and outlined the procedures involved. She encouraged the adoption of recommended organic agricultural practices. Course Coordinators Dr Aamir H. Mir and Dr Shabeena Majid discussed sustainable soil practices and various horticultural techniques for niche crops specific to the Kashmir Valley, respectively. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Shabeena Majid.
