Govt to launch 500 KKGs in Aug to boost farmer services

The Jammu and Kashmir Government is set to introduce 500 Kisan Khidam Ghars (KKGs) in August as part of a comprehensive initiative to enhance farmer services.
Director Agriculture Iqbal Choudhary told Rising Kashmir that the farmer services will be launched in two phases with first phase to be launched by the government in the first week of August, and 1500 KKGs being launched by October.
He said that the initiative will streamline support for farmers by providing all necessary facilities at their doorstep. “The most important link between the government and the farmers will be to make all facilities available to the farmer on the doorstep, whether it be in terms of technology, other handholding, or inputs so that the farmer does not have to go far, whether it be in terms of weather advisory, all information pertaining to the agriculture and allied sector will be there.”
To further support local farmers, two panchayats will be grouped together to form a single KKG. “This will make it easier for the farmer, so that due to these facilities, the income of our farmers, and especially the employment among youth increases,” he said.
The responsibility for procuring materials and identifying locations for the KKGs has been assigned to the Deputy Commissioners of each district. “All DCs have to procure materials. The DC of every district is incharge of this,” said Choudhary.
The new KKGs will be a pivotal step in improving the agricultural infrastructure and support system in Jammu and Kashmir, providing vital resources and information to farmers at the local level, he said.
He said that these KKGs will transform agricultural support systems by offering various essential services in one place. These centers will become key hubs, providing farmers with access to agricultural inputs, information on modern farming methods, market connections, and government programs, he added.
The KKG initiative is part of the government’s broader plan to empower farmers, increase agricultural productivity, and improve rural livelihoods.
The KKGs will play pivotal role in connecting farmers with essential services and will promote sustainable farming practices, he added.
