SKUAST-K, National University of Jeju, Republic of Korea sign bilateral academic letter of agreement..

One day conference on plant phenomics was organized by Divison of Plant Biotechnology SKUAST-K, Shalimar wherein an international faculty from Jeju National University, Republic of Korea, Professor Young Suk Chung delivered key note lecture on Plant Phenomics and it’s application in contemporary agriculture. The conference started with introductory remarks by Prof Shabir A Wani, Dean, FoH SKUAST-K who delivered the opening notes and introduced the invited speaker and his research profile.

The conference was chaired by VC SKUAST-K Prof Nazir A. Ganai who talked about the importance of Plant Phenomics in precision Agriculture. The Conference was attended by more than 100 participants including Deans of different faculties, scientists, research scholars and students.

The speaker emphasized on utility of modern tools for high throughput phenotyping, application of machine learning and big data in deciphering trait expression under different abiotic and biotic stresses. The lecture followed by elaborated discussion and a Q&A session regarding the subject.

VC stressed the scientific community to device research programmes addressing climate change issues using data analytics and robust plant phenotypic platforms and congratulated Dr. Khalid Z. Masoodi, organizing secretary of this conference for initiating research collaborations with Jeju National University, Republic of Korea. He also mentioned the efforts being made by SKAUST-K in this pursuit.

A comprehensive letter of agreement was also signed between SKAUST-Kashmir and Bioresources Computing Research Centre, Jeju National University, Republic of Korea to accelerate progress of research, innovation and training in diverse disciplines especially precision agriculture, phenomics and plant biotechnology.

The letter of agreement shall encourage academic collaboration by exchange of students and faculty for mutual research progress. The event was concluded by Prof M. Ashraf Bhat, HoD Plant Biotechnology who delivered a vote of thanks with special thanks to the guest speaker. Prof. N. A. Ganai Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Prof. T.H. Masoodi Director Research, Prof Shabir A. Wani Dean Horticulture, Dr. Sheikh Mansoor, Post Doc, Jeju University, South Korea, and appreciated everyone for their proactive participation.
