Baramulla educator selected for prestigious Fulbright teaching program

Shaista Shakeel, a dedicated government school educator hailing from Peer Bagh Chakloo, in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has been chosen as a participant in the renowned Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (FTEA).
A government teacher at a school in the town of Baramulla, Shaista’s journey in education has taken a global turn.
Shaista expressed her belief in the power of education, community engagement, knowledge dissemination, and international connections to make a substantial difference in the world.
With this conviction, she opted for the Fulbright platform, recognising it as an avenue to create a meaningful impact.
Notably, she had the privilege of being mentored by a Fulbright scholar, which undoubtedly contributed to her success. She acknowledged the indispensable support from her colleagues, family, and husband, without which her journey would have been arduous.
In a message resonating with the youth, Shaista encourages them to take on the role of their own mentors. “Determination knows no bounds and individuality is a powerful asset,” she told Rising Kashmir.
She emphasised the prudent use of time, the significance of the internet in today’s global village, and the need to harness its potential beyond mere scrolling.
Her message is one of self-belief and patience, reminding the youth that they possess more luck and capability than they may realise.
This program provides a 6-week opportunity at the US University for teachers from around the world to enrich their teaching skills, learn innovative methodologies, and immerse themselves in American classroom environments.
It encompasses seminars, English language training, and cultural support, empowering returning teachers to apply for grants that further their teaching initiatives.
Waseem Aziz, a distinguished Fulbright scholar from Baramulla, shared his enthusiasm for guiding fellow teachers, culminating in the remarkable achievement of Shaista Shakeel receiving the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship.
