Kashmir’s Chisti sisters shine in Georgia, bag gold, silver in Int’l Wushu Championship

They are twins, study together, play a similar sport, went to Georgia together early this month for an International competition and interestingly fought each other, to bring home two medals – a gold and a silver.

The twin sisters, Ayeera and Ansa, famously known as Chisti sisters, from Kashmir, have brought laurels to J&K by winning gold and silver medals in the 56 KG weight category in the International Wushu Championship held in Georgia from August 2 to 7, this year.

The duo was part of the Indian contingent, who were recently selected for the International Sporting event by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in the trails under the National Central of Excellence (NCOE) program held at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh in which players from different states and Union territories across India participated.

The sisters, who hail from Tawheedabad Bemina area in Srinagar city, are currently studying in Government Girls Higher Secondary Amira Kadal have won 14 medals at various national championships.

In an interesting fight, the sisters faced each other for first and second place in the 56 kg weight category while representing India in the finals. Ayeera Chisti defeated her Sister Ansa and won gold leaving her sister Ansa with a silver medal.

Earlier, in the semifinals of the championship in the said category, Ayeera defeated her Georgian opponent while Ansa fought her semifinal fight against the Armenian opponent.

After being selected to represent India in the mega event, the sisters worked hard to represent the country at the International forum.

While confirming to Rising Kashmir, National Chief Coach of India, Dronacharya Awardee (Wushu) Kuldeep Handoo said the twin sisters secured Gold and Silver in the Batumi International Wushu Championship played at Batumi, Georgia.

“The Sports Authority of India and Wushu Association of India were sponsoring the Indian Wushu team for participation in the Championship,” he said, and added, ” the twin sisters, have made the whole country proud.”

Speaking to Rising Kashmir NIS qualified Wushu Coach Asif Hussain, who trained both the sisters said “the duo proved their mettle once again as per the expectations and brought laurels to J&K by achieving this feat at the international arena that too at such a young age.”

“By bagging medals on an international platform the twin sisters have made people of the county and Jammu and Kashmir proud,” he said.

In a tweet Secretary, J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gull hailed twin sisters for bringing laurels to Valley.

“Congratulations to Ansa Chisti and Ayeera Chisti for their excellent performance in the Batumi International Wushu Championship at Georgia by winning Gold and Silver medals. Girl power shining in J&K,” the Secretary tweeted.
