Two more Kashmiris have made it to Chevening Scholarship this year. Aabid Hussain and Sadaf Mir have been selected for the highly competitive and prestigious Chevening Scholarship to study Masters in Social Innovation, Entrepreneurship from London School of Economics and Masters in Educational Planning, Economics and International Development from University College London, respectively.
Aabid,24 is a law graduate from Central University of Kashmir and a first-generation learner. Abid said he had to think a hundred times before even applying for Chevening Award. The whole process has been full of challenges, anxiety, and excitement for him. Last year, he was a reserve candidate for Chevening and unfortunately couldn’t secure it in his first attempt, which almost shattered his dream of joining the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science. Then I thought of giving it a second try and succeeded in securing this highly competitive award.
Aabid has thanked people who constantly were there to support and encourage him throughout this journey. Especially, Mr. Hasnain Khawja (Advocate), Shoaib, Mohsin and Anurag Singh who have been mentoring Aabid in the entire process.
Sadaf,24 is the youngest daughter of her parents and has done her B.Com (Hons) from Degree College, Bemina. She has made it to Chevening in her second attempt. She has extensive work experience in Non-profit organizations.
Sadaf has recommended Chevening Scholarship to students of Kashmir and advised them to get exposure to as many opportunities as possible. She suggested participating in internships and volunteering opportunity during college. Having a good academic background helps according to Sadaf, but it’s not the only important aspect of building a career.
