IUST holds first Para-Athletic meet

The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) held first of its kind para-athletic meet in the varsity campus with several para-athletes from different parts of Kashmir participating in this athletic meet.

As per a varsity spokesman, Vice Chancellor IUST, Prof. Shakil A Romshoo, Registrar, Finance Officer and other university officials were present on the occasion.

While complementing enthusiasm of para athletes on the occasion, Prof. Romshoo said that the passion of these athletes is worth appreciation.
“Despite being physical challenged these athletes are not giving up their courage and are participating with great enthusiasm in sports,” he said.

VC, on the occasion also assured that the University will be organizing more such events in future on larger scale.

“University has sufficient infrastructure for organizing national and international sports events in the campus”, he added.

Talking to Rising Kashmir Assistant Director, Physical Education and Sports IUST , Dr. Hilal A Rather said that the first of its kind para athletic meet was organized by the Directorate of Physical Education & Sports of the University on the synthetic athletic track of the university.

”This is the only International standard athletic track in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

While extending gratitude to Voluntary Medicare Society Bemina for their support, Dr. Rather said that this event marked an important milestone for Para-athletic sports of Kashmir.

“Besides para-athletic meet, other sports events were also held in the campus,” he added.

Rather have expressed gratitude to Athletic Association of Srinagar for their technical support.

“All the competitions of the event were conducted in accordance with the regulations of International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), followed in the world University games,” he said.

He further stated that the NEP-2020 promotes holistic development of students, with great emphasis on sports.

“In keeping with this central tenet of the education policy, IUST vouches to support and coordinate activities in sports and organize more such events in the future,” he said.
