Doon International School Srinagar inaugurated Wilmot school in collaboration with Australia and UK based Wilmot Foundation, here at school premises.The school was inaugurated by Dave Whatmore, an Australian cricket coach.
Speaking at the occasion, Whatmore said that the inauguration of an Australian flavor of education in Kashmir is really a wonderful thing. “The educational facility in the school will have wonderful benefits for everybody,” he said.
On the occasion, he hailed the speedstarUmran Malik and congratulated him for being selected in the Indian cricket squad. “Umran is playing wonderfully to the point that he was retained by his franchise. I am sure there are a lot of other youngsters here in the state that would like to emulate another Umran Malik,” he added.
Dave is in Srinagar at Dhoni Cricket Academy to train the cricketer enthusiasts of the valley for the two days. “This is my second visit to Srinagar and whatever knowledge i have, I am going to share as much as I can,” he added.
Ashay Patil, the coach of the academy said that the international coach will be training cricketers in three sessions each day. “The first class cricketers and those who have been part of the IPL lately as net bowlers will be coming here too for training purposes. Everybody will be able to know the techniques of the game and it will be a learning experience for all,” he said.
During Covid pandemic, Doon International School had inaugurated the Dhoni Cricket academy in the school. Mehfooz Aslam, the principal of the school, while praising the coaches said, “Our team came up a runner up in the recently held competitions and we have been doing good in the field of sports as well as academics.”
Showkat Hussain Khan, the chairman of the school while talking about the Wilmot school said that the school is trying to give an international flavor. “We have an Australian collaboration where we will be following their curriculum. The globe has shrunk and we have become closer. The new block is the best in terms of infrastructure and equipment. Pedagogy will be different as there will be a play way method. Kids will question and find the solutions on their own. Unlike the traditional way of teaching we will get the answers from the child,” he said.
The school will be functional from August this year. In the meanwhile, teachers will be receiving training.
“Trainers from Australia will come here and a mixture of cultures will take place. We will also send a batch of our 6 teachers to Australia who will get trained there. We are initially opening the block till class 3rd and then next year we are thinking of taking it to a higher level,” he added.
