The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kupwara, Ghulam Nabi Bhat briefed the media persons about the present status of Social Welfare schemes in the district.
Chief Education Officer Kupwara and District Social Welfare Officer were also present on the occasion.
Giving details, the ADC said that about 10 percent of the population of 80000 people in the district are covered under various Social Welfare schemes who are getting financial assistance. He said that 120000 students of the district including 93000 under minority scholarship have also been covered for the financial assistance.
The ADC urged upon the students to work hard with utmost dedication as the government is providing them scholarship assistance to ensure their smooth studies.
He appealed to the people to register mentally challenged persons if any in their home with the District Social Welfare Office (DSWO) for coverage under different schemes. Besides, if a mentally challenged person is already registered with the department, he also needs to be registered for the Insurance Policy launched by the Government under National Trust Act
The ADC also appealed the transgender people to get registered with DSWO for financial assistance.
