SSCL to construct cycle track from Dalgate to Budshah Bridge

Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) is going to develop a cycle track along Chunti Kul from Dalgate junction to Budshah Bridge.According to an official, the tenders for redeveloping the track has already been made public and the work upon the project will be started once the weather gets improved.Speaking exclusively to Rising Kashmir, Commissioner SMC Amir Athar Khan said it is an effort to make Srinagar smarter, attractive and eco-friendly. “The Srinagar Smart City Limited intends to prepare a Detailed Public Bicycle Sharing System Plan for the Srinagar Municipal Corporation Area (PAN City),” the Commissioner said.“The plan includes preparation of a city-wide network of bicycle tracks, docking stations and their fleet sizes, MIS and operational guidelines for a city-wide public,” he said.He also said the Bicycle Sharing Network in the city will be implemented in a phased manner. “Currently we are working on the development of cycle track along Chunti Kul from Dalgate junction to Budshah Bride. The tenders regarding the project have already been floated and the bid submission date also expired. Also, allotment should have been done. However, the work will be started once weather conditions will improve,” he added.The Commissioner SMC who is also Chief Executive Officer, SSCL told Rising Kashmir that the track will be constructed around Chunti Kul adjacent within the interiors of Maisuma from Kashmir Golf Course to Budshah Bridge. He added in the meanwhile 8 wooden foot-bridges will be constructed over the track which will cross-connect the track to other sides.“This track will function both as a cycle track as well as a walking track. It was designed in a way so that people can use it for regular commutation also,” he added.He also added the Public Bicycle Sharing System is expected to link to the city’s bus transit, popular tourist destinations as well as common destinations such as schools, colleges, universities, hospitals, libraries, market places etc.To a query, the Commissioner SMC replied that as part of Smart City Projects, several Cycle Tracks have been proposed in various parts of the city. “Besides, construction on another cycle track in the Shivpora area of Sonawar is underway. The concerned agency has completed its 90% work and only finishing work is pending which will also be completed soon”, he said and added, “If the weather will allow further construction work in coming days, hopefully, the track will be thrown open within a month.”Pertinently SMC under Srinagar Smart City Project has taken up several developmental works in the city among which the majority of projects have been completed. Recently the city civic body completed restoration and renovation of historical and religious sites in the city. The restoration of St Luke’s Church in the Dalgate area which was thrown open on December 25 on the eve of Christmas was one of the endeavours of SMC in the recent past.“We are exploring and identifying locations in Srinagar city. The SSCL will come up with one more cycle track in the Bemina area soon,” the Commissioner SMC added.
