Mahfooz Illahi from Kulgam South Kashmir scales Mount Everest

A resident of Kulgam in south Kashmir, Mahfooz Illahi Hajam, has achieved the distinction of scaling Mount Everest -the world’s highest peak.
Already well known for his trekking and climbing skills in Kashmir, Mahfooz is a civilian instructor at the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM&WS) in Aru (Pahalgam)
The India Today television broke the story of Mahfooz Ilahi Hajam, a resident of the Kulgam district in Jammu and Kashmir, having successfully scaled Mount Everest.
“At 6.20 am on June 1, I scaled Mount Everest [8,849 meters], the highest peak in the world,” Mahfooz told the TV.The expedition was led by Colonel LS Thapa, an ace climber who has scaled Mount Everest twice. Colonel Thapa is currently principal at JIMWS Pahalgam.
Belonging to a middle-class family from the Kujjar area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, Mahfooz’s father is a barber.It was a tough adventure for Mahfooz as he was stuck for 10 days with a team at camp 2 due to heavy winds on Mount Everest.
Speaking to India Today TV, Mehfooz said, “Youths of Kashmir should choose adventure sports as we have lots of potential here for it.”
